Botox & Neuromodulators

Smooth Fine Lines & Wrinkles in Palm Beach Gardens, Jupiter, and Port St. Lucie

Fine lines and wrinkles on the face usually appear as one of the first signs of aging. Luckily, they can be easily dealt with by a variety of safe, effective, and minimally invasive cosmetic procedures. Among the oldest and most reliable of these procedures—developed in the 1940s and still the most popular product on the market—is Botox. Because our physicians can administer precise amounts of Botox by injection, you can count on having just enough rejuvenation to reduce or eliminate facial fine lines and wrinkles without looking “frozen” or overdone. The doctors at Lickstein Plastic Surgery, led by board-certified plastic surgeon Dr. David Lickstein, firmly believe in treatments that highlight and enhance the naturally attractive and unique facial features of their patients in Palm Beach Gardens, Jupiter, and Port St. Lucie, Florida. If you do not have other significant signs of facial aging, or you simply want to hold off on having a more invasive procedure such as a facelift, Botox can give you the great results you want until you decide you need a more substantive procedure. It is quite possible that with Botox or an alternative neuromodulator, facial fillers, and regular follow-ups, you can avoid more invasive procedures almost indefinitely.

What is Botox?

Botox is an injectable, non-surgical anti-aging treatment that smoothes fine lines and wrinkles, giving patients a more youthful appearance and preventing the further development of these signs of aging. This prescription injectable has been used for decades for both cosmetic and medical purposes. The formulation features minuscule amounts of botulinum toxin, a neuromodulator, which can beneficially affect the facial muscles by relaxing the muscles that cause dynamic wrinkles to occur and preventing them from developing or progressing.

The doctors at Lickstein Plastic Surgery perform Botox injections for patients from Palm Beach Gardens, Jupiter, Port St. Lucie, Tequesta, North Palm Beach, West Palm Beach, and Wellington, Florida, in our medical spa, either as a single procedure or in combination with other anti-aging treatments, to help patients achieve their precise facial rejuvenation goals. Botox injections are a quick and easy procedure and their convenience makes it an ideal treatment to reverse aging signs, while follow-up treatments to maintain your results can easily fit into the busiest and most demanding schedules.

Botox Treatment Areas

As an anti-aging treatment, Botox is primarily used to address aging signs in specific areas of the face, including:

  • Forehead wrinkles
  • Parallel lines between the eyebrows, also known as frown lines or the 11s
  • Horizontal lines across the bridge of the nose also called bunny lines
  • Crow’s feet in the outer corners of the eyes
  • A brow line that is beginning to drop in some areas

Botox Alternatives

Botox is the most well-known anti-aging toxin injectable treatment, but it is not the only injectable that is FDA-approved to treat and prevent fine lines and wrinkles. In addition to Botox, we offer Dysport, Jeuveau, and Xeomin to provide options for personalized treatment plans and meet patient preferences. Our doctors can discuss your cosmetic goals to determine the injectable that is best for you. If you choose a Botox-alternative treatment, preparation, injection process, and recovery will be similar to that of Botox.

DYSPORT®

Dysport is a botulinum toxin injectable with many similarities to Botox. Dysport is an effective anti-aging treatment that is especially well-suited to improve frown lines and other forehead lines. The main difference between Botox and Dysport lies in the varying potency of certain trace proteins in their formulas. Dysport patients can expect an injection process and quick recovery similar to Botox. Galderma, the maker of Dysport has conducted studies showing that patients typically see quick results, within 2-3 days, that can last up to 4 months.1

JEUVEAU®

Jeuveau is an innovative injectable and one of the newer neurotoxins to be FDA-approved for the treatment of forehead wrinkles. This treatment has similarities to Botox and Dysport since they are all botulinum toxin injectables, but many patients are excited to try this new treatment which has been given the nickname “Newtox”. One key difference in Jeuveau is the unique purification process by which the formula is manufactured. Clinical studies show that Jeuveau can improve the appearance of moderate to severe frown lines.2

XEOMIN®

Xeomin is an FDA-approved Botox alternative uniquely formulated without any unnecessary protein additives. Xeomin is intended to temporarily reduce the appearance of frown lines and wrinkles on the face. Like Botox, Xeomin’s main ingredient is botulinum toxin type A, the neurotoxin that relaxes facial wrinkles by blocking the neuromuscular signals to targeted muscles at and around the injection site. Xeomin’s purified formula can prevent antibody resistance, so injections administered over time don’t diminish in effect.

DAXIBOTULINUM TOXIN A (DAXI)*

DaxibotulinumtoxinA for Injection, or DAXI, is similar to Botox in that it is a neurotoxin. This new treatment, however, has been shown in clinical studies to have longer-lasting effects than Botox. When applied to glabellar lines (the lines between the eyes, sometimes referred to as “elevens”), DAXI proved to be effective in reducing wrinkles for up to six months where the effects of Botox may begin to fade after only three months.

Preparing For Botox

Preparing for Botox injections at Lickstein Plastic Surgery involves a few important steps to ensure a safe and successful procedure. First and foremost, it is crucial to schedule a consultation. During this appointment, you’ll have the opportunity to discuss your goals and concerns, allowing the practitioner to determine if Botox is the right treatment for you. You should plan to disclose your medical history and any medications you are taking to avoid potential complications. It is advisable to refrain from consuming alcohol and blood-thinning medications in the days leading up to the procedure to minimize the risk of bruising. Additionally, you should follow any specific pre-procedure instructions provided by your practitioner, such as avoiding strenuous exercise on the day of treatment. By carefully following these guidelines, patients can enhance their Botox injections’ overall safety and effectiveness at Lickstein Plastic Surgery.

The Botox Procedure

In addition to being a very fast procedure, a Botox treatment is also very easy. On the day of your appointment, our doctors will sit you comfortably in the med spa procedure room and cleanse all areas where you will receive the Botox injections. Depending on the injection sites and your general level of sensitivity, you may have a topical anesthetic administered to you to make the treatment more comfortable. Anesthesia is optional if for any reason you do not wish to be numbed during your procedure. Most patients choose not to have anesthesia and remain very comfortable throughout their Botox treatment.

The Botox injections themselves also take very little time to perform. Using a thin needle, our doctors will inject predetermined amounts of the neuromodulator into the muscles surrounding your areas of concern. The number of injections you will require entirely depends on the condition of your skin and the amount of facial rejuvenation you wish to see.

After your injections, you may leave our office and immediately return to your normal activities, and you will have no special instructions to follow post-treatment. You may experience some mild swelling or bruising around the injection sites, but these side effects typically subside within a matter of hours.

Botox Results

You may see results immediately following your Botox injections. However, for most patients, results will usually develop in the days following your procedure. The outcome of your Botox procedure should become fully visible within about a week after your treatment. Your refreshed and more youthful appearance, however, will continue to develop for three to four more months. It will be necessary to schedule periodic follow-ups to receive more Botox injections to maintain your results. If you continue to follow the Botox regimen recommended by our doctors, you should be able to enjoy long-lasting results without the need for more invasive procedures. The benefits of a Botox treatment often far outweigh Botox’s cost.

FAQs About Botox

Who is a good candidate for Botox?

Botox is an effective cosmetic treatment for reducing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, but not everyone is a suitable candidate for this procedure. Ideal candidates for Botox injections are generally healthy individuals who have realistic expectations about the results.3 They should have specific areas of concern, such as crow's feet or frown lines, and be over the age of 18. However, several contraindications must be considered. Botox is not recommended for individuals with a history of keloidal scarring, as it may increase the risk of adverse reactions. Those with neuromuscular disorders, like myasthenia gravis or ALS (amyotrophic lateral sclerosis) myopathies, should avoid Botox, as it can exacerbate their conditions. People who have experienced allergies or adverse reactions to botulinum toxin or its components should also avoid the treatment. Additionally, Botox is not suitable for individuals with body dysmorphic disorder, as they may have unrealistic expectations. Pregnant and breastfeeding individuals should defer Botox injections to ensure the safety of both themselves and their infants.4 It is crucial to consult with a qualified healthcare professional to assess individual eligibility and discuss potential risks and benefits before undergoing Botox treatment.
