The diagnosis of breast cancer can be completely overwhelming, Lumpectomy or mastectomy can result in changes in appearance of the breast and a loss of a woman’s self confidence, and sense of femininity. These physical changes involved can be the cause of an extreme loss of confidence; however, it does not have to be a permanent condition. Dr. Lickstein is one of the most experienced surgeons in the area in the field of breast reconstruction.
Breast reconstruction surgery can be performed at the time of mastectomy or after completing cancer treatment. There are numerous surgical options available to recreate the breasts, including single-stage breast reconstruction, tissue expander staged reconstruction, and flap repair. In 2007, Dr. Lickstein was one of the first plastic surgeons regionally to perform direct to implant reconstruction. His experiences allows him to use the “gummy bear” implant as part of a single-stage reconstruction. He serves as Director of Plastic Surgery for the Jupiter Medical Center Oncology Program, and is seen as a key opinion leader regarding breast reconstruction.
Each patient’s individual unique circumstances and expressed goals will determine which approach can provide the greatest opportunity for success. Dr. Lickstein and his team will spend a great deal of time with you during your initial consultation we will fully discuss your goals and help formulate a treatment plan in conjunction with your breast surgeon and oncologist.
