Meet Dr. Thais Polanco

Dr. Thais Polanco is a plastic and reconstructive surgeon who brings exceptional surgical training, a refined aesthetic eye, and a genuine passion for patient care to Lickstein Plastic Surgery. Specializing in breast surgery, body contouring, and facial rejuvenation, she believes the most meaningful results are those that honor a patient’s individuality while enhancing natural beauty, balance, and proportion.

As a mother, Dr. Polanco appreciates how confidence, self-image, and personal priorities evolve through different stages of life. Whether helping women feel more confident after pregnancy, addressing aesthetic concerns, or guiding patients through breast reconstruction following cancer, she takes the time to understand each patient’s unique goals, build relationships rooted in trust and honesty, and empower them to make informed decisions with confidence.

Education & Training

With proud Dominican roots, Dr. Polanco earned her medical degree from Universidad Iberoamericana, graduating cum laude. She subsequently completed her general surgery residency at Mount Sinai Medical Center.

Driven by a commitment to advancing the field of plastic and reconstructive surgery, Dr. Polanco completed a dedicated two-year research fellowship at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, (MSK). This experience deepened her appreciation for the profound role of reconstructive surgery in restoring form, function, and quality of life, particularly for patients navigating breast cancer. Dr. Polanco completed an advanced certificate in basic and translational science at Weill Cornell School of Medicine during her time at MSK.

She went on to complete her plastic and reconstructive surgery fellowship at UT Health San Antonio, where she received comprehensive training in aesthetic surgery, breast reconstruction, craniofacial surgery, hand surgery, and microsurgery, gaining experience in complex aesthetic and reconstructive procedures.

Throughout her training, she built a strong academic record with nearly 30 peer-reviewed articles and textbook chapters, and gave presentations at national and international meetings. She also serves as a peer reviewer for the Journal of Plastic, Reconstructive & Aesthetic Surgery.

Beyond the Operating Room

Outside of her practice, Dr. Polanco cherishes spending time with her husband, Jupiter Medical Center Colorectal Surgeon Dr. Christopher De Jesus and their two young children. She enjoys time with friends, traveling, exploring the outdoors, reading, and practicing yoga.

Proud to now call South Florida home, she looks forward to building meaningful relationships with her patients and contributing to the community she serves.
